Cambridgeshire restaurant returns from the English Curry Awards with three distinctions, one year after its Team of the Year success
BOURN, CAMBRIDGESHIRE – Lalbagh Indian Restaurant has brought another national honour home to Cambridgeshire after winning the Special Recognition Award at the 15th Annual English Curry Awards 2026.
The family-run restaurant, based in the village of Bourn, was recognised at the national ceremony at Grand Station in Wolverhampton on Monday, 10 August. The result continues an exceptional run for Lalbagh, which received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Team of the Year at the English Curry Awards in 2025.
Lalbagh also received the Outstanding Award in Curry CNCT Choice of the Year and was Recognised for Excellence in Restaurant of the Year – East, placing the independent Cambridgeshire business among leading restaurants from across England.
“To bring another national award home to Bourn is a deeply proud moment for all of us. Lalbagh has always been built on the commitment of our team and the loyalty of our guests. To be recognised again, a year after our Team of the Year honour, shows what can be achieved when a local restaurant keeps raising standards while staying close to its community. This belongs to every member of our Lalbagh family and to everyone across Cambridgeshire who continues to support us.”
Mumitur Choudhury, co-owner of Lalbagh
Founded in November 2008 by brothers Miftaur and Mumitur Choudhury, Lalbagh transformed a former village pub into a destination for Indian and Bangladeshi dining. Its latest national success adds to a record that includes Restaurant of the Year – East of England honours in 2012, 2013 and 2018, Most Wanted Restaurant of the Year – East of England in 2021, and major national and regional recognition across the hospitality industry.
For a restaurant rooted in a South Cambridgeshire village, the latest award is a significant national endorsement of the team behind the food, service and dining experience. Lalbagh says it will use the recognition as motivation to keep investing in its people, its standards and the community that has supported the restaurant for nearly 18 years.
